We wrote a post a few weeks back about the best foods for your overall dental health. We thought there was no better way to follow up that post than with a post about the worst foods for your teeth!

Here is a list of the 11 worst foods for your teeth!

1) Dried Fruits

Dried fruits are packed with sugar that the bacteria in your teeth love to eat. And just like other organisms, the more bacteria eats the bigger they get! No one likes big bacteria.

2) Sugar Drinks

Soda, fruit juice, and other sugary drinks are terrible for your teeth. Not only does the sugar affect your teeth’s health, the acid in the drinks also can damage your teeth.

3) Ketchup

The next time you’re eating some French fries you might want to think twice about dipping them in ketchup. Ketchup is very high in acid and sugars. And you guessed it, acid and sugar are not good for your teeth.

4) Alcohol

Did you know that alcohol is mainly sugar? During the fermentation process the wheat and barley in beer basically just turns into sugar. Other types of alcohol, like wine, can also stain your teeth.

5) Starchy foods

Starchy foods like bread or potato chips can easily get stuck in your teeth. The longer the foods get stuck in your teeth the biggest the chance for them to grow bacteria. And if you haven’t caught on yet, an excess of bacteria in your mouth is a bad thing.

6) Coffee

We’ve all heard why coffee isn’t great for your teeth. Have you ever drank half a cup of coffee and then saw the brown stain left in the mug? Yeah, that also happens to your teeth!

7) Saltine crackers

The refined carbs in crackers immediately turn into sugar that bacteria love to eat. Skip the crackers next time you have soup. Your teeth will thank you.

8) Barbecue Sauce

Barbecue sauce isn’t great for your teeth for the same reasons as ketchup, sugar, and acid. Look for low sugar barbecue sauces next time you fire up the grill.

9) Hard Candy

You probably already know why this is on the list. Hard candy is 100% sugar. Just say no!

10) Ice

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Drinking water was in our top 5 best foods for your teeth post a few weeks ago. Well, when that water freezes it is a whole new game. Chewing on ice can be terrible for your teeth. According to OralAnswers.com, when you chew on ice, you’re putting a lot of pressure on the enamel of your teeth. The more pressure your enamel is put under, the more likely your teeth will crack or chip.

So the next time you’re at the grocery store try and avoid these foods, and buy more of the foods in this post.
